Is there a reason each footnote is listed twice? Are you trying to make it look like there are more citations than there really are?

And if you actually read the footnoted articles that are works of research not opinion they work against you. Even the wikipedia article says “all of the countries named adopted the WHO definitions in the late 1980s or early 1990s, which are used throughout the European union” For example Russia and the other former Soviet republics changed their reporting in the 1990s.

So the IMR rates are much more comparable than you claim here. The 2006 US News and World Report article many IMR disbelievers cite has been thoroughly discredited.

You are absolutely right. Mona Charen had an article on this same issue a few months back. She pointed out the problems with the IMR accounting, also. Additionally, she showed that in cases, like cancer, where survival rates are not subject to the whims of government rules, America leads the world, and Europe compares very poorly.

This is truly an idiotic comment! Name for us all the US states that are not covered by the the Family and Medical Leave Act and thus leave working mothers without insurance? For you Wikipedia would be a gigantic improvement!

Most european countries require, at least partial, if not full, paid maternity leave, while the US does not require companies to pay employees on maternity leave. Being out of work with no pay and still having to pay for insurance for 12 weeks, is difficult. Most Americans can’t afford to be out of work without pay for three months.

Also wikipedia is not considered a credible source of information.

OK here is my side of the isle.
