The skyrocketing prices of Epipens are a perfect microcosm of how Obamacare is putting life saving medicine out of reach of the middle class. The poor get it for free and the wealthy can afford it but what about us?
Mylan Labs the makers of Epipens have been steadily gouging the public on these Epipens for years now. For no apparent good reason, Mylan Labs have been slowly inflating prices and were able to keep it hidden form the public. Now however becasue of ever increasing premiums under Obamacare the prices are becoming evident and unaffordable. Epi Pens are now 500% higher than they were in 2009 to the point that now a 2 pack costs an exorbitant $500!!
Take for example “Jackie Davis of Newport News, Va., and her husband, Cory, recently moved from health coverage through the military, which covered all costs for their son Michael’s EpiPens and asthma inhalers, to a commercial plan with a $6,000 deductible. Her out-of-pocket cost for his inhaler was $283 and she learned Tuesday that her cost after the coupon for three two-packs of Epipens is $1,500. She can’t afford even one two-pack now.”
Myaln Labs reasoning for this outrageous and probably deadly price hike is that they claim they’ve donated over 700,000 pens over the past 3 years to schools etc. One has to suspect that they are probably lying becasue it would be a rare case indeed when a pharmaceutical company does not get tax breaks or other sort of subsidies for donated medicine.
What this exemplifies is how Obama care id devastating the middle class. as Myaln Labs stated they donate pens to the poor and when they are not donated we pay for them for those who are destitute. The rich can afford them at $500 a box. But what about the middle class, retirees or couples with multiple children who need these life saving medicine?
